Community TV for better communication
In a step to integrate rural areas with mainstream world, the government of Nagaland, a state in north-eastern India, will distribute community TV sets to villages. The initiative would also provide communities exposure to global and national developments.
Kohima: The government of Nagaland has decided to distribute
community television (TV) sets to all recognised villages in the state
to improve communication process and to better link them with the world
by providing access to global developments.
Announcing this, the state Information and Public Relations and
Economics and Statistics Parliamentary Secretary R Tohanba said that
the initiative will be jointly implemented by the Chairman of the
respective District Planning and Development Boards of the districts,
the Deputy Commissioners and the District Public Relations Officers.
Acknowledging the efforts put into the realisation of this
project, he said this could be an initiative in exposing the midland to
the northeast. The discrimination and differentiation felt by the
people can be sorted out through such exposures, he added.
Deliberating on the various activities of the department since its
inception right after statehood, Tohanba expressed optimism that the
department would continue to play a key role in disseminating policy
initiatives of the state government for accelerating development in the
state.
He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting, Government of India for providing the TV sets and also
the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for taking the interest to
bring about the programme in the state.
Lauding the project as well-timed, the state Chief Secretary
expressed hope that through this noble programme, the community and
rural people of the state would be benefited.
Expressing concern for availability of power, Lalhuma stressed on
the need for collaboration between the department and NePED in order to
provide free and reliable power supply and to make good use of this
venture.
