History

In 1999, OneWorld South Asia (OWSA) was set up in India as a liaison office of OneWorld International Foundation (OWIF), U.K. to further OWIF’s mission in South Asia. The office was located in the British Council office in New Delhi with one person acting as the editor of OWSA portal.

In mid 2000, OWSA shifted to independent office premises to expand its team and operations. The network expanded to include many partners from different states in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives. The increased staff strength allowed for activities ranging from syndicating development stories to mainstream media like Yahoo! World News section, Indo Asian News Service and others; running electronic discussion lists on thematic issues; conducting training programmes on strategic application of ICTs and providing technical services; and publishing specialist global portals such as the Digital Opportunity.
