The European Commission has proposed an additional 80-million-euro package of aid and reconstruction money to earthquake ravaged Pakistan. 30 million euros are for the needs of the survivors and and 50 million euros for rebuilding costs.

An ILO report prepared for a meeting - Promoting Fair Globalisation in Textiles and Clothing in a Post-MFA Environment - says that mny textile and clothing exporting countries in Asia have coped well after the end of the MFA. The 3-day meet is taking place in Geneva from 24-26 October.

The Indian government has ratified the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), which aims at eliminating or restricting the production and use of POPs. These are 12 chemicals and pesticides that persist in the environment for long and accumulate in the fatty tissues of living organisms. They are highly toxic for humans.
