The World Food Programme organised a walk global walk in 118 countries to deliver a strong message that child hunger has no place in the world and and citizens working together can root it out. Funds from the campaign will be used for helping pregnant women as well as school-going children.

A civil society assessment of the Indian government has found that the government has failed in honouring its commitments made to the people in employment, education, health and social equity among others. An assessment of two years of the government was done by over 100 NGOs and experts in New Delhi recently.

Experts, at a meeting of NGOs in New Delhi, said that if the Indian government had delivered on its promises related to education, as promised by it two years back, it may not have faced the huge country-wide agitation by medicos on reservations.

A coalition of Indian civil society organizations are holding a two-day meet in New Delhi to remind the Indian government of the promises that it had made to the people during elections nearly two years back. The organizations are also releasing a report card of the government’s performance during these two years.

The Habitat International Coalition (HIC) and the Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN) have appealed to Indian NGOs to intervene in the slum demolitions in India's financial capital Mumbai where nearly 5,000 houses have been demolished and a slum was set on fire.

The Indian government started importing wheat early this year despite the fact that stocks were over the buffer level and procurement was to begin in April. An investigation by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) finds that the US is involved in the import of wheat into India - a policy that could spell disaster for the country.

The Lyari Expressway Mega Project, being constructed by Pakistan, will destroy thousands of people by rendering them homeless and without a livelihood. Nearly 11,000 houses and 3,100 commercial buildings have been destroyed since January 2006.
