Policy Advocacy

The Policy Advocacy Programme area of OneWorld South Asia (OWSA) took shape in January 2004 to sensitise and influence the government, the media, donor agencies and like-minded organisations towards pro-poor ICT policies. More...
As a part of ICT advocacy, OWSA has chosen to run online debates and campaigns, hold consultations, organise policy workshops, conduct road shows, undertake original research; bring out offline publications and host multi-centric events to lobby for change. More
As part of its mandate to strategically position ICTs for pro-poor policies, OWSA focuses on critical development issues related to the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations. Through its portal and campaigns on advocacy, OWSA seeks to create a knowledge resource on MDGs and also lobby for policy change. OWSA is working with not only the UN but also with the civil societies in the region to lobby with the government and ensure that the developmental agenda decided by the UN General Assembly in 2000 is implemented for the benefit of millions in the South Asian region.
More
OWSA is implementing the India chapter of the four-country action research project titled “Improving Transparency, Quality and Effectiveness of Pro-Poor Public Services using ICTs”.
This action research is being conducted simultaneously in Pakistan, Croatia and Nigeria. The project aims to build pro-poor public service feedback systems. OWSA has chosen the health sector and within it, the India Population Project, focusing on maternal and child health. The project site is the Badarpur Maternity Hospital in New Delhi which under-serves a nearby slum of about 9,000 people. By installing an ICT tool – a phone line – OWSA and its project partners are trying to rebuild communication and trust between the hospital and the community.
