The World Bank Monday gave out US$35,000 grant to six projects that will help youth development work in Sri Lanka. In its second consecutive year, the 2006 Small Grants Programme aims to build capacity and develop management skills among Sri Lankans within the ages of 18-30 years, the bank's Country Director Peter Harrold told reporters.

Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry of Sri Lanka has allocated Rs.50 million to implement several projects with the intention of accelerating development pertaining to youth affairs this year.The Ministry has already made arrangements to implement a series of youth development programmes countrywide to uplift the skills and creative talents of youth as pledged in Mahinda Chintana, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga told the Daily News.

A new international report released on the occasion of World Youth Day Thursday says rising global unemployment has badly hit the world's youth, pointing out that one out of every two jobless people is below the age of 24.
