For all those working in the area of agricultural development and food security, this book details various techniques for conducting a comprehensive assessment of agricultural sustainability in a micro-region. The authors believe that there are six categories of assessment necessary for a holistic evaluation namely productivity, stability, efficiency, durability, compatibility and equity. They emphasise the necessity of selecting the most appropriate indicators and developing new ones. In a final analysis, they review a variety of strategies used in different settings around the world and highlight the common features in all the assessments.
