The Government of India has decided to support Mission 2007 in its Union Budget 2005-06, which was presented by the Finance Minister (FM), Dr. P. Chidambaram. The FM said that the Government shares the goal of Mission 2007, which is to establish village knowledge centres in every Indian village by the 60th anniversary of India's Independence Day. An amount of Rs. 100 crores has been allocated for Mission 2007.
Dr. Chidambaram made an important announcement relating to the Universal Obligation Service Fund (USO) and has requested Reserve Bank of India to facilitate credit support to farm sectors. This significant announcement has added momentum to the nation-wide initiative.
OneWorld South Asia (OWSA) along with M S Swaminathan Research Foundation and NASSCOM Foundation is an active founding member of the National Alliance on Mission 2007. In its role as a Secretariat, OWSA provides critical support by coordinating the work of the Executive Board and the National Alliance members.
