New Delhi Though the scheduled launch of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty's (G-CAP) White Band campaign was delayed in Pakistan due to torrential rains and thunderstorms, the campaigners more than made up with their innovative ideas towards the end of the week.

On July 5 afternoon, Maqsad mobilized young people from different lifestyles, representatives from non-governmental organizations and employees from the public sector in one of the most densely inhabited area of Lahore, Nila Gumbat, which is near Anarkali Bazaar.

The hosts organized a roadside exhibition displaying newspaper pictures, showing the misery of the poor, particularly women and children, due to the lack of healthcare and education facilities and employment opportunities.

A puppet show was also conducted between a servant (common person) and his master (government official) on the issue of high prices, low wages, the government's performance, and the role of mass media in disseminating information and raising awareness of people. There was also a call for No Excuse this time.

The puppets also gathered on their shirts signatures from the vendors, taxi drivers, students, shopkeepers, women shoppers and students. The signatures will be complied in a book form.

Some people also skipped a meal on July 6 and contributed the saving to feed the poor, who don't get two meals a day.
