Now epidemic breaks out in Mumbai

The Maharashtra government has declared outbreak of epidemic in the municipal areas of Mumbai and also in Kalyan-Dombivali in neighbouring Thane district.

Sixty six people have died of suspected Leptospirosis in the city and Thane district following torrential rains and subsequent floods last month, Health Minister Vimaltai Mundada said here today.

Thirty seven cases of suspected Leptospirisis were reported from city alone and 29 in Kalyan-Dombivali municipal limits, she told reporters.

In view of increasing cases of high fever and suspected Leptosporisis, the government has declared outbreak of epidemic in these areas, the Minister said.
