The Human Development Report released by UNDP recently finds that Bangladesh has improved a lot in terms of human development and has increased its rankings remarkably. At the same time the country has also seen an increase in Islamic fundamentalism which was bought to the fore last month when nearly 500 bomb blasts simultaneously took place all over the country.
The Christian Science Monitor finds that Bangladesh has become a hotbed of fundamentalist activity because of an influx of foreign money, a patronising government and the strong influence of radical Afghan leaders.
The bomb blasts have served a warning to the government which has since last month tried to investigate the source of funds and is arresting militants by the dozen.
