POKHARA: Participants at an interaction programme held here today by the Resource Development Centre Nepal said that conflict was creating hurdles in attaining millennium development goals in the country. Until there is stability in Nepal goals cannot be achieved, they said.

Associate professor Dr Lekhnath Bhattarai presented a report which said that as long as conflicts, political instability, corruption and inequality existed in the country there was little chance for Nepal to benefit from RDCN.

The report focussed on eradication of poverty and combating malnutrition, implementation of basic primary education, promotion of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Micro-level financing can play a significant role in attaining millennium development goals, said Bhattarai.

Bhattarai report added that despite the commitment of G8 countries and other European community to provide 0.7 percent of their total domestic produce to developing countries, they are not doing so.

Although the campaign of Millennium Development Goals started in 2000, the destination point has been fixed for 2015. Former president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Anandraj Mulmi spoke about the significance of micro-level financing for achieving millennium development goals.
