CHILUVURU (GUNTUR DIST.): India's first Internet village, Chiluvuru at Duggirala mandal in Guntur district has started training school teachers in basic computer applications and Internet at its centre.

Inaugurating the training programme, Katragadda Charities chairman Katrgadda Lakshmi Narasimha Rao said that school teachers in batches of 30 each would be selected to undergo three-day training at the Rajiv Internet centre at the village.

He called upon people to make Guntur district a hub of computer activities. District Education Officer Srirama Murty, said that teachers played an important role in building a knowledge society and proper training in the latest technologies would help them in this endeavour.

He hoped that the training would update them on the latest teaching methods. Village sarpanch Thella Jayalakshmi was present.

Greener village

Villagers of Chiluvuru were also eager in planting trees along the approach road to the village from Namburu. They contacted the district forest officials and requested them to take up plantation works.

The Forest Officials were more than happy and they took up the plantation works immediately.

"The villagers were very enthusiastic on planting trees. We have planted 3,000 trees on either side of the road for 7.5 km," said Divisional Forest Officer (Social Forestry), T. Jyothi.

Since it was an approach road to the village from Namburu, we had planted both shady and flowering plants and put up thorny fences around to protect them from cattle, she added.
