The polycentric WSF in Karachi (Pakistan), previously planned to take place from January 24th to 29th, 2006, has been delayed by two months. The decision was made during a WSF 2006 Organizing Committee and Pakistani Social Forum National Committee meeting, which took place in Lahore, on November 19th. The new date for the polycentric event will be decided after consulting the Asian Council and the WSF International Council. At the meeting, it was also decided to have a national forum in Pakistan, in Lahore, on January 23rd and 24th, 2006. This delay is one of the consequences brought by the earthquake that took place in Pakistan this year’s October. The meeting also asserted that, despite all the progress that has already been made in organizing the logistics for the WSF in Karachi, there are problems regarding mobilization, fundraising and volunteer contributions, which are due to the involvement of many citizens, groups and organizations in the relief and rehabilitation of affected areas. The Lahore event in January will focus on themes related to natural disasters, the role of the State and global forces, humanitarian aid, trade and debt. In spite of being a national event, it will try to bring delegations from all over the world to show their concern and solidarity to the survivors.

Registration Activities registration for the polycentric event in Karachi are still open until November 30th. Registration are to be done at WSF website.
