University Grants Commission (UGC) has created a task force for setting up a National Qualification Framework (NQF) for standardising knowledge and skills of various programmes in different universities and institutions.
National Qualification Framework is a set of principles and guidelines by which the learner's acquired knowledge and skills are registered, enabling the conferring of national recognition. This would also lead to an integrated system encouraging life-long learning, its acting chairman Prof V N Rajashekaran Pillai said.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of 'Regional Quality Summit on Education' meet, organised by CII, Pillai said that the objective was to create an integrated national framework for registering achievements in learning, facilitating access to and mobility and progression within education, training and career paths.
Stating that the new national education and training system would be able to support the notion of an adaptable workforce, he said that only when the qualification was standardised, there would be "mobility" within the universities and educational institutions.
Moreover, the rapid technological advances have placed educational systems under extreme pressure as they try to adapt and incorporate these changes in an effort to produce more creative, effective and adaptable workforce, Pillai said.
Task force is also working to standardise IT sector, which had diverse software programmes, he added. (Agencies)
