Appointment of good teachers is the key to success of any institution, and only the best should be appointed, the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, has said. He participated in the ninth graduation day celebration of the Kongu Arts and Science College.
"Good teachers are the key to well-educated students. To achieve better education, we have to begin with teachers. They are the key to success. Their self-esteem matters very much. Educational institutions should not compromise on recruitment of its teachers. They should select only the best. As I said earlier, good teachers are the key to high standards," he said. Devices Further sharing his thoughts on education, the Governor said, "the purpose of education is to impart knowledge. Knowledge is power and hence, educational institutions should make use of the modern information and communication technology devices to teach the students how to learn. Students should be taught how to learn things. They should follow holistic approach, concentrating on the intellectual, physical, emotional and artistic development of the student." He then presented gold medals to the 17 university rank holders from the college. Earlier in his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Tamil University, Thanjavur, C. Subramaniam, expressed concern over the declining interest in science among students. "Because of bright students not evincing interests in basic sciences - physics, chemistry and biology - our country has not been able to produce scholars of Nobel calibre." He went a step further and blamed the declining interest in the arts to the over-importance given to technology. "Arts, humanities and sociology have been relegated because of the over-importance given to technology." This, he said, does not augur well for our country, which was trying to become a developed nation by 2020. The Principal of the college, C. Swaminathan, welcomed the gathering. More than 450 students received their degree certificates. Source: The Hindu More |
