Two fresh cases of polio have been detected in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh- according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). The WHO officials said blood samples of five more suspect cases from this important district of western Uttar Pradesh have been sent to Mumbai for pathological tests.

Earlier in June 2006, WHO detected eight 'hot' polio suspect cases, of which two children were tested positive. Both the children - two-and-half-year-old Yusuf son of Pawai resident Anees and Village Todi resident Saleem's one-and-half-year-old daughter Rani -have been identified as polio affected.

When who officials came, they found both the children very weak. Suspecting polio, the officials sent their blood samples to Mumbai on June 24, 2006, along with six other blood sample of polio suspects. Saleem and Rani tested positive

The remaining six cases are yet to be examined, said an official in health department. According to District Magistrate MKS Sundaram, to some extent, poor infrastructure in urban areas of Loni could be responsible for the polio cases.
