ADB to provide 32 mln USD for Nepal's education programs

The Asian Development Bank has agreed to provide a loan assistance of Rs. 2124 million and a grant assistance of Rs. 141.6 million to the Government of Nepal for the implementation of Education Sector Programme 1 and the Capacity Development Project, respectively.

Both the agreements to this effect were signed today between the Government of Nepal and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the Ministry of Finance, according to the Ministry.

The objective of the ESP is to support the country's medium to long-term education sector reform and restructuring in a phased manner, leading to a more equitable, inclusive, effective and holistic school education.

Likewise, the other Capacity Development Project is aimed at developing the capacity of the Ministry of Education and Sports and other key stakeholders to prepare the 1-12 school sector reform and restructuring.

ADB has also agreed to join the joint financing arrangement for 'Education For All' with other donor partners.

The agreements were signed by Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Madhav Prasad Ghimire, and Paolo Spantigati, Officer In-Charge at the Nepal Resident Mission of ADB.
