Jail term for Indian scribes

The Delhi High Court today sentenced four senior journalists of Mid-Day newspaper to four months of imprisonment for contempt of court for writing and publishing reports against former Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal.

The Division Bench comprising Justice R S Sodhi and Justice B N Chaturvedi said, the four contemnors had “tarnished the image of the Highest Court” and the “sentence of four months’ imprisonment would serve the justice.”

M K Tayal, the newspaper Editor, S K Akhtar, the then publisher, Vitusha Oberoi, Resident Editor and Irfaan Khan, cartoonist, were released on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 each.
