The CIVICUS World Assembly is a forum for international civil society representatives to get together, exchange ideas and experiences, and share platform with high-profile speakers and grassroots activists from all over the world. It is the global convening point for civil society and the key stakeholders of civil society, to enable them to act together for a just world.
Building on and continuing the success of past World Assemblies, the overall theme for this event is Acting Together for a Just World.
This overall theme will be explored at the 8th CIVICUS World Assembly, to be held from June 18 – 21, 2008 in Glasgow, Scotland through the focus theme of People, Participation and Power!
CIVICUS invites the key global stakeholders from civil society, government, business, donors and media to submit proposals for workshops in line with the focus theme of the World Assembly.
The 7th CIVICUS World Assembly had brought together over 900 people from 124 countries with a focus on cross-sectoral accountability and the responsibility of powerful actors with regard to their actions.
What emerged from 2007 was a serious need to look at civil society's capacity to act in concert to realise the big picture and knowing there are allies in government, business, media and donor bodies who are similarly involved and from whom strength can be drawn.
Regular updates will be given on the CIVICUS website on an ongoing basis. Watch this space!
