Budget 2008-09: As if people matter

The Union Budget 2008-09 will be presented by the Finance Minister on February 29. With a strong belief that budget is the most important policy pronouncement, our team at Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA) works overnight to prepare a comprehensive response to the Union Budget.

The following day, on March 1, we organise a panel discussion with very eminent panellists and anchored by the noted political commentator, Yogendra Yadav.

We take great pleasure in inviting you for the panel discussion titled: Budget 2008-09: As If People Matter — which will be held on March 1, 2008, at the Amphitheatre of India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road between 5:45 and 7:30 pm.

We promise it will be a very exciting evening, where you can interact with policy makers and see some of the best brains debate the budget.

Although different and diverse fora and organisations will do analyses of the Union Budget, this is, in all probability, the only live event, which analyses budget from the perspective of the common people, its impact on you and me – not on its impact on stock market, foreign exchange reserves or the corporate world.

We will also release our report with the analysis of the 2008 Union Budget at the forum, wherein we analyse the budget not just for critical social sectors (health, education, water supply and sanitation, agriculture, etc.) but also from the lens of the marginalised communities (from the perspective of dalits, women, children, etc.).
