Save the Tiger: WWF-India starts signature campaign
|
Do you think the tigers should continue to thrive in the wild rather than languish in cages in zoos? Do you think you can make a change for the tigers?
If the answer is yes, then please lend your voice for the tigers by joining the online signature campaign.
The fact cannot be denied that the tigers in India are under tremendous threat for survival and the general public needs to support the cause of tiger conservation in a large way. With this objective in mind World Wildlife Fund - India kick started a signature campaign called "Roar of the Tiger" on July 19, 2007 at a function organised at its Secretariat in New Delhi. Hundreds of school children participated in the event and committed their support for the cause of tiger conservation in India. The issues demanding attention are: the need to act fast as it could be now or never for the tiger, the need for more i.e. the government must step up its conservation work and the need for us to join hands to show our support for the tiger in the wild. The signature campaign is being conducted in two parallel phases; one running across the country where people put their signatures on large cloth signature panels. The other phase is getting signatures of people online who would love to see the tiger in its wild habitat. With the support of one million citizens who care for the tigers in the form of their signatures, WWF looks forward to impressing the policy makers and the government to much more for securing a future for the tigers in India.
