Learning environmental management

The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is conducting a summer certificate course on the policies, politics and practices of environmental management in India: Agenda For Survival, from June 4 - August 2, 2008 at New Delhi.

This course (see brochure below) will be beneficial for all those who want to understand the developmental paradigms in India especially the southern perspective.

This is an interactive course with students' participation and presentation of case studies as one of the highlights.

During this intensive course, participants will explore the complexities underlying the environment-development debate in India.

Apart from lectures, readings, presentations and debates, participants will also get to read, report, watch films and review them, attend seminars, and interact with guest speakers, eminent activists and policy makers.

As part of their assignment, participants will put together an online documentary project, using text, video and audio.

The programme also includes weekly outings and a week-long field trip to rural India.

Course fee

The course fee is Rs. 15,000 and includes all field excursions, reading materials, lunch and refreshments during training day. The fee does not cover accommodation or meals. Outstation participants can be helped with accommodation, on request.

Eligibility

A total of 35 participants will be selected. The course is open to young professionals and college students from any stream.
Admission criteria

Candidates are required to submit a 500-word essay on any one of the following topics:

• Environment vs. development: two sides of the same coin?

• The tiger, the Nano and the ‘common man’: will all three thrive in India circa 2050 AD?

The deadline for sending essay along with a résumé / CV is May 10, 2008.
