Mission and Profile

OneWorld South Asia, based in New Delhi, India, is a part of the OneWorld Network, an international non-profit network that aims to use ICT tools — ranging from the Internet, mobile telephones to community radio — for poverty alleviation and promoting sustainable development.

Translating OneWorld’s overall mission of harnessing the democratic potential of the Internet to promote human rights into its current strategy, OWSA spells out its mission as “Voicing the Voiceless”.

OWSA’s new operational strategy is to position ICTs strategically to advocate for inclusive and pro-poor ICT policy; enhance partners’ capacity to communicate and advocate for affirmative policy change and public action; voice the voiceless through grassroots communication; and, channelise communication for development.

With a strong network of more than 300 non-governmental organisations as its partners, OneWorld South Asia (OWSA) works symbiotically to achieve its goals. Its key programmes are: Knowledge for Development, Grassroots Communication, Policy Advocacy and Research & Analysis. All the programmes are supported by two units, viz., Capacity Building and Technical Services and Partnership and Programme Coordination.
