History of OneWorld South Asia

In 1999, OneWorld South Asia (OWSA) was set up in India as a liaison office of OneWorld International Foundation (OWIF), U.K. to further OWIF’s mission in South Asia. The office was located in the British Council office in New Delhi with one person acting as the editor of OWSA portal.

In mid 2000, OWSA shifted to independent office premises and expanded its team and operations. The network expanded to include many more partners from different states in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Maldives. The increased staff strength allowed for activities ranging from syndicating development stories to mainstream media like Yahoo! World News section, Indo Asian News Service; running electronic discussion lists on thematic issues; conducting training programmes on strategic application of ICTs and providing technical services; publishing specialist global portals on education and Digital Opportunity.
