Award for human rights
International service announces nominations for the 2009 award that recognises the efforts of organisations and individuals in promoting human rights and bringing a change in the society. Deadline for submission of names is July 3, 2009.
The Human Rights Awards celebrate the commitment and tenacity of these often unsung heroes by: raising the profile of the award-winners’ achievements; affirming the importance of work that seeks to change the things which cause people to be excluded, impoverished or disempowered; and promoting the importance of working with fundamental respect for all people, especially those who suffer poverty and injustice.
Categories
- Award for the Defence of the Human Rights of Women
- Award for the Defence of the Human Rights of Children
- Award for the Defence of the Human Rights of Disabled People
- Award for the Defence of the Human Right to Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare
- Nominees must be individuals or organisations working in development in any county in the world.
- Nominations can be made by international development agencies and human rights organisations.
- If your nominee is successful in being chosen for an award, it is expected that you will undertake some activity to publicise news of their award.
- Activities referred to in the nomination must be activities which are currently underway or have recently been completed.
- Award winners will be invited to the UK for an awards ceremony in December 2009.
- International Service covers the cost of bringing award winners to the UK.
- The awards also bring a cash prize of £500 which is to be used for profile-raising activities by the winners.
Submissions
The deadline is July 3, 2009 and winners will be notified by the end of September 2009.
