Established in 1998 by Reuters Foundation and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the awards aim to help raise global awareness of environmental and sustainable development issues by encouraging high standards in environmental reporting worldwide.
IUCN is the world’s oldest and largest global environmental network that helps the world find pragmatic solutions to our most pressing environment and development challenges by supporting scientific research; managing field projects all over the world; and bringing governments, NGOs, the UN, international conventions and companies together to develop policy, laws and best practice.
The Awards are open to journalists in print and online news services throughout the world. Journalists are invited to submit entries related to environment and sustainable development.
The global winner of the competition, selected amongst six candidates representing Asia, English-speaking Africa, French-speaking Africa, Europe, Latin America, and North America & Oceania, receives a cash prize of US$ 5,000.
Each regional winner receives a trophy and a travel grant to attend the global ceremony to be held at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona, Spain in October 2008.
Deadline
All entries must be published or posted between September 12, 2006 and June 10, 2008.
Last date for sending entries is June 15, 2008.
