Awards for research on development
Global Development Network is accepting submissions from researchers on key development issues as part of its annual competition for development research and projects. Closing dates for submitting proposals are August 28 and September 30, 2009
The Global Development Network (GDN) is now accepting submissions for the 2009 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition.
The competition focuses on key issues such as globalization, regional integration, climate change and international migration against the backdrop of the current global economic and financial crisis, the political and economic repercussions of which can already be felt across countries and regions.
The impact of these crises on the architecture of developing countries cannot be understated. They have prompted many to challenge globalization and they are also likely to hasten the structural shift in global economic power from Western countries to emerging markets.
The 2009 Global Development Awards and Medals Competition themes are:
- Globalization, Regulation and Development
- International Migration: Crossing Borders, Changing Lives?
- Regional Integration- Convergence Big Time, or, an Opportunity Wasted?
Eligibility:
The competition is open to researchers from developing & transition countries.
Finalists get an opportunity to travel to Prague, Czech Republic to attend GDN’s next annual conference where they present their research before a distinguished jury for the final round and win cash prizes!
Submissions are being accepted under the following three categories:
Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development
For applicants who have outstanding new research proposals that add a unique dimension to research on any of the three themes listed
First Prize: US $30,000; Second Prize: US $5,000
Deadline: September 30, 2009
Medals for Research on Development
For excellent completed research papers on any of the three themes listed
First Prize: US $10,000; Second prize: US $5,000
Deadline: September 30, 2009
Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project
For exceptional on-going development projects that have given maximum benefit to local communities and need further financial assistance to scale-up the project
First Prize: US $30,000; Second Prize: US$ 5,000
