AMARC announces the tenth World Assembly of Community Radio Broadcasters which will be held from November 8-13, 2010 in Argentina. More than 400 community broadcasters from 110 countries will gather to improve good practice in community media among other issues.

Community Radios have come together in AMARC Argentina to host the first Global conference of community broadcasters to be held in South America, where community radios were born 60 years ago.

Furthermore, Argentina and the Latin America & Caribbean region is going through dynamic social changes and has a rich in experiences to share with the world movement of community radios.

More than 400 community broadcasters and stakeholders from over 110 countries and all regions of the global community radio movement will gather at the AMARC 10 Global Conference from 8-13 November to, among other issues, improve good practice in community media; explore strategies to facilitate the establishment of enabling legal environments for community media development, to define knowledge sharing and capacity building models for action-research and mentoring; to reinforce content development leading to social change; to facilitate the inclusion of women and; to encourage the empowerment of communities through appropriation of community radio for social justice and sustainable, democratic and participatory human development.

There will be an important preparatory assessment process consisting in consultations and assessments combining electronic discussions, surveys, teleconferences and workshops and seminars in all regions of AMARC in order to build a body of documents and proposals to be reviewed at the AMARC 10 Conference.

Purpose of AMARC 10 World Conference

The purpose of the conference is to increase the effectiveness of AMARC and of the Community Radio Network in achieving social justice and sustainable, democratic and participatory human development.

Goals of AMARC 10

The goals of the AMARC 10 World Conference are:

1. To make the point on the situation of community radio worldwide and define the strengths and weaknesses of the movement and facilitate exchanges of best experiences from one region to the other;

2. To contribute to the reduction of poverty, disaster management, climate change mitigation and adaptation, governance, health, water and sanitation challenges,

3. To contribute to increased recognition of community radio in legislation as a tool for achieving social and development goals.

4. Capacity building for the setting up of community radios, to reinforce content programming and ensure Community Radio becomes an actor for development.

5. To empower women and other excluded sectors of society through community radio;

6. To define a world-wide strategic plan for 2011-2014;

7. To elect an AMARC International Board and facilitate the coordination with AMARC regional entities and its partners.

If you cannot pay online, make sure you indicate if you will pay in place, send a check or if you will ask for sponsorship.

Please note that if you do not indicate one of these four options your subscription will not be considered at this stage.

4. If you choose to pay on-line, you will be re-directed to a secure page where you will be able to pay with your credit card (Visa or MasterCard).

5. If you choose to pay in place or send a check, you will receive an email confirming your subscription.

6. If you choose to ask for sponsorship, you will receive an email with all the required information for the treatment of your application. Applications for sponsorship will be received only until September 1st2010.
Please note that the only way to participate in the AMARC10 World Conference is by filling the application form online. We will not consider any subscriptions made by email.

Please note the registration fee for nonmember is of 475 USD and the registration cost for members is 375 USD. In both cases you may ask for sponsorship. Only those whose request for sponsorship is accepted will be contacted.
