Call for papers on global economic governance

Danish Institute for International Studies invites papers to be presented in a conference that aims to discuss the global economic governance for a more stable and resilient world economy. Deadline for submission of abstracts is July 9, 2009.

The G-20 summit in November initiated an international policy process of huge potential significance for the future livelihoods of people throughout the world. Many hope for a new era in international economic governance. Some have even advocated that the ongoing G-20 deliberations ought to lead to a “Bretton Woods II” agreement.

There is generally a strong sense of urgency, in other words. There also appears to be a determination to cooperate internationally and to take bold measures.

This conference strives to bring together young researchers (<35) from across the world to discuss how global economic governance should be reformed in order to establish the foundation for a more stable and resilient world economy in the future.

The conference will conclude with a panel session where the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs and a handful of the participating young researchers will engage with each other and the audience on the main themes and issues identified in the course of the conference.

Theme:

Reforming the Bretton Woods institutions.

Participants:

The conference welcomes contributions from young researchers of a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds – including political science, economics, sociology, geography and development studies.

Submission guidelines:

Please submit an abstract of maximum 400 words before Thursday 9 July 2009, to Lasse Folke at lfo@diis.dk. Authors of abstracts accepted for presentation at the conference must submit their papers no later than Friday 14 August.

Submitted papers should be no longer than 5.000 words.

Authors of accepted contributions will be reimbursed for travel and incidental costs.
