Conference on global finance and human security

A conference to examine global financial crises and its implications on peoples’ rights and human security in South Asia is being organised in New Delhi, India from November 01, 2011 to November 05, 201 by Lady Shri Ram College for Women in partnership with Heinrich Böll Foundation. The last date for application is August 8, 2011.

Global Finance and Human Security in South Asia: A Gender Perspective

The Autumn School will attempt to examine the causes of the recent finance-led global crises and the implications for peoples’ rights and human security. The deliberations will focus, in particular, on the status of women in South Asia ― a region that suffers from severe poverty and stark gender inequities.

The School will offer a non-hierarchical platform for reflection, network building and leadership development. It will bring together about 25 young participants from the countries of South Asian region to engage with senior academics, experts and policymakers to generate debate on more socially equitable and gender inclusive development paradigms. T

he interactions at the School, it is hoped, will create a network of young professionals who will incorporate the learnings into their work and career trajectories to impact policies and processes that enhance human development.

Eligibility: The School is open to young (preferably below the age of  35) scholars/researchers/activists from the countries of the South Asian region (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), who are interested in the issues of Global Finance and Human Security from a gender perspective.

How to apply: Applicants should send a CV and a 500-800 word note explaining why they are interested in participating in the School and what they hope to learn from it.
