OneWorld Foundation India is organizing a one-day consultative dialogue on the theme India’s Climate Responsive Roadmap for Development on July 16, 2009 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
As the countries of world prepares to shape an ambitious international response to climate change through effective and sustained implementation of the Framework Convention, it is time for emerging economies like India to define a clear roadmap for action. The wait-and-see attitude will not help if aspirations for an ambitious climate deal are to be fulfilled by the end of this year.
A crucial step in this direction will be technology transfer and financing of low-carbon emission technologies that allow low and middle income countries to pursue their growth aspirations in climate friendly fashion, compensation for developing countries on reducing emission from deforestation, and funding for adaptation measures for developing countries and communities from rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and related climate variability risks.
The purpose of this consultative dialogue is to inform and influence the process of formulating a pragmatic approach for India in climate change negotiations; and underline the need for mainstreaming ecologically sustainable inclusive development based on equitable rights of all citizens.
Participation is by invitation only.
