In the era of liberalisation and globalisation, with burgeoning
industrial activity, the Indian entrepreneurial class has ventured into
various environment-friendly practices. The conventional idea of
profit-maximisation by the private firms has been substituted by the
ideology of corporate social responsibility today.
Recognising the growing importance of this ideology, the Tata Energy and Research Institute (TERI) is organising an event on April 5, 2008 at Le Meridien, New Delhi.
The event ‘Pathways to Green Publishing: a stakeholders’ dialogue on ecological and sustainable publishing practices’ aims at finding some innovative solutions to the environmental hazards that are linked with printing and publishing in India.
This event provides a platform for public–private collaboration to
check the excesses of wastage and toxicity in the publishing, paper,
and printing industry.
In this context, it is imperative that the state plays a proactive
role in revising the existing policy framework for the publishing and
paper industries. Further, the corporate sector may seriously involve
in greater research and development endeavours to devise effective
strategies in finding desired solutions to the problems at hand.
The key issues that form the core areas of discussion in the event would be taken up with this underlying objective in view.
The contribution of the Indian media in spreading awareness on
environmental aspects is well established. In this context, this event
will also be a good platform for the media to bring to the fore, the
various environmental issues associated with printing and publishing.
