ICTs in education: Call for nominations

UNESCO announces entries for the 2009 King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the use of ICTs in education. This year’s theme is “Teaching, Learning and e-Pedagogy: Teacher Professional Development for Knowledge Societies”. Applications should reach latest by September 30, 2009.

Funded by the Kingdom of Bahrain, the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize rewards activities that demonstrate best practice as well as creative use of ICTs to enhance learning, teaching and overall educational performance.

The US$50,000 prize is divided between two winners. Last year, it was awarded to China’s Shanghai TV University (for its project ‘Turning the Digital Divide into Digital Opportunity’) and to Dr Hoda Baraka, of the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (for her leadership in the implementation of several national ICT projects in education).

Submissions for candidature must reach UNESCO via the governments of Member States, in consultation with their UNESCO National Commissions, or by international non-governmental organizations which maintain formal relations with the Organization.

The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2009.
