Training on HIV/AIDS care

Jaipur based Institute of Health Management and Research will conduct a training programme on the care and support for HIV positive people from November 3-7, 2008 in the western Indian city. The training will focus on building capacities of health care providers and program managers at the local level.

Institute of Health Management and Research will be conducting an international training programme on up-scaling care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS from November 3-7, 2008 in Jaipur, India.

Objectives

•  To develop skills for planning and delivering care and support programs for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA).
•  To develop understanding about universal processes and standards for providing the services.
•  To strengthen the technical and managerial capabilities of managers, service providers in internalising these and rolling out care and support programs for PLHA and their families, in the local contexts.

Course contents


The training programme will focus on the following issues:

•  National HIV/AIDS policies and programme, scope of care and support programme for PHLA in national agenda
•  Assessment of the care and support needs (health, economic, social etc.) of PLHA and their families in the local contexts.
•  Resource planning - Human resources, infrastructure, procurements, public-private partnership, insurance, alternative sources of funding for ART, linkages and networking
•  Counseling, continuing education and positive living
•  Delivery and management of ARV-supply, monitoring and adherence to treatment, Up-scaling ARV programme
•  Continuum of care, referral linkages and linkages with TB control program
•  Management of community and home-based care
•  Universal precautions in hospital and home-based care
•  Management of burnt out among service providers and home/community based care providers
•  Human rights, gender equity and legal issues
•  Socio-economic rehabilitation, management of stigma and discrimination, and mobilising social support system and welfare institutions
•  Monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment

Participants

The programme is designed for planners, program managers and service providers in public, private and NGO sectors involved in the management of care and support HIV positive people at district, provincial and national levels.

The number of participants will be restricted to 25.

Course fee

Indian participant: Rs. 16000
International participant: $600

This covers charges for boarding, lodging and course material only.
