India is moving towards a severe water scarcity scenario where its fragile and finite water resources are depleting, while the demand for water from various sectors of the economy is rapidly rising.

In recent years, the rapid industrialisation (industry is the second major consumer of water with over 50 billion cubic metres) and growing population have increased the disparity between the supply and demand of water.

The enhanced need for water has not been matched by commensurate growth in water infrastructure.

The level of investments and technological innovations that are required to meet the water challenges make it an ideal opportunity for the Government to engage private companies under newer public-private partnership model to cater to the water demands.

The attractive investment potential of water sector opens up a vast space for private sector companies to bring newer technological and managerial solutions to meet the challenges of the water space.

In context of the Gujarat State, shortage of water resources has often been perceived to be a growth constraint, and the State has accordingly given the highest priority to investments in the water sector.

Considering the above, it is pertinent to understand the underlying factors behind the water scarcity scenario, and highlight the investment opportunities and joint areas of engagement for the Government and private players to overcome this challenge. Thus the theme, “WATER SECTOR IN GUJARAT – CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES”

This year’s summit aims to focus on underlying issues in water sector and suggest effective solution / technologies for water management.  It will provide a platform for service providers to showcase state-of-the-art technologies and private players to illustrate attractive investment models that can serve the water market in an effective manner.

It will also provide a unique opportunity to bring together all the stakeholders in this sector i.e. the Government, Local Municipal Corporation, Industry, Academia and other institutions / consumer groups to discuss ways and means to surmount the water challenge.
