Voices from the Waters 2009

Bangalore Film Society along with a consortium of institutions invites entries for the 4th International Film Festival on Water to be held from September 4-7, 2009 in Bangalore, India. Aiming to create awareness on water as a precious resource, entries should reach latest by July 31, 2009.

Established in 2005 to promote awareness on myriad water-issues affecting our everyday lives, Voices from the Waters started as a Bangalore-based Environmental Film Festival and subsequently, grew out to be one of the largest, most diverse and dynamic platforms of debate, dialogue and celebration of this precious resource.

This year’s festival will be held from September 4-7, 2009 in Bangalore, India. Voices from the Waters is conceived as a travelling film festival. The selected films after being premiered in Bangalore at the main event will be taken across to educational institutions, NGOs, small towns and villages across India.

Organisers include Bangalore Film Society, Arghyam, Society for Voluntary Action Revitalization and Justice (SVARAJ), Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, Ithaca College, US, Mountainfilm Festival, Telluride, US, Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore, Charter of Human Responsibilities and Water Journeys and Campaign for Fundamental Right to Water.

Short films, documentary, animation and feature films (DVD format only) with English subtitles are invited under following categories:

  • Water Scarcity
  • The Dams and the Displaced
  • Water Harvest
  • Water Struggles/Conflicts
  • Floods and Droughts
  • Global Warming and Climate Change
  • Impact of Deforestation on Water Bodies
  • Water, Sanitation and Health
  • River Pollution   
  • The Holistic Revival of Water Bodies
  • Water and Life

The deadline for sending entries is July 31, 2009.
