Workshop on Indian Coasts

Indian coasts are doubly vulnerable today. On one hand, they are facing unprecedented pressures from industrial and urban development. On the other, they are threatened by climate change-related devastation. Fishing communities which inhabit these coastal areas are being hit by a similar double-whammy – ironically, from conservation on one hand and development on the other.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites you to a media briefing workshop to discuss the challenges and threats confronting India’s coasts, their communities and their management. The briefing workshop will also try to understand whether India can design coastal area management policies which will reverse these trends and find approaches to conserve and protect vulnerable ecosystems and secure livelihoods and habitats.

Participation procedure:

• Participation at the Workshop is open to active journalists from India.
  
• There are only 30 seats for the Workshop. Interested journalists can apply through e-mail or fax on the format provided below.
• There is no participation / registration fee. CSE offers to support the travel and accommodation of some of the selected participants. But to avail of this sponsorship opportunity, journalists must apply immediately.
• Selection of the participants will be done by CSE. The cut-off date for receiving applications is July 25, 2010.
