E-Library for Indian lawyers
Lawyers in western India will soon be able to do their legal research at the click of a mouse. The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa will launch an e-library scheme that will provide legal data software and internet facilities to over one lakh lawyers in the two states.
Mumbai: The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa will launch a scheme this week for the legal fraternity, making computer, internet and software facilities available in bar rooms across both states.
As part of the scheme, one computer with legal software would be donated to every bar association in every district and taluka, Additional Solicitor General and member of the Bar Council of India, Rajendra Raghuvanshi said.
The facility of an "E-Library", which is being made available for the very first time in the country, will make the legal software and computer facilities available to Bar Associations from across the state and Goa.
The initiative taken by the lawyers and the Bar Council would benefit over one lakh lawyers across 350 Bar Associations in the two states.
The scheme will also usher in internet facilities connecting all bar associations and courts across the state in due course of time. Lawyers have funded the entire scheme which costs Rs 1.5 crore till the installation point.
Chief Justice of India, K G Balakrishnan will inaugurate the scheme in Nagpur on July 12. The scheme will be inaugurated by the CJI as part of the state lawyers' conference to be held in Nagpur from July 12 -13.
The conference will discuss subjects like modern era challenges for the judicial system and legal fraternity, advantages and disadvantages of public interest litigations and trial by media.
It will also delve into issues like use of new scientific methods and technology in investigation of crime and effective use of scientific measures for speedy disposal of justice by trial courts.
