Now adopt a child online
The Central Adoption Resources Authority in India will soon launch an online facility to make child adoption faster and easier. The project will link its various centres across the country, and provide all details of children to adopt including their photographs.
Want to adopt a child. No need now to go for a frantic search at different places. You can look for a suitable child for adoption by clicking the mouse of a computer. The Central Adoption Resources Authority (CARA) under the Ministry of Women and Child Development is soon going to launch an online facility to enable the child adoption a hassle free affair.

According to CARA Chairperson JK Mittal, the authority has a mission to bring positive changes in the system and extend the programme to all states and union territories (UTs) through various MIS applications, centralized data base and multi media campaign.
The authority has 71 centres across the country and all the centres would be networked under the programme. The centres will have all details of the children including their age, sex and photographs.
However despite making the process online, CARA would hold control over the entire process- from searching to handing over the child to the prospective adoptive parents, a CARA official said.
CARA would provide a user ID code to all the centres. It will help CARA to see details of all the children across the centres online. However the centres would not be able to access each other's sites to see details of such children.
To find a child, prospective adoptive parent(s) will have to register themselves with the local CARA centres or with the State Adoption Cell.
Soon after getting registered with the local agency, the CARA centre will immediately show the prospective parent details of available child at the centre. If the applicant does find a suitable one, his application will be forwarded to the CARA headquarters for a broader search.
Once the CARA finds a suitable child after nationwide search it will immediately send the details to the applicants. "Presently it consumes much time and after finding a child it takes about a year or so to formalise the adoption legally," an official said. Online process will definitely make the process faster, he added.
CARA has during last three years has provided 3000 in country and over 900 inter country adoptions.
