Rohan Lal

Community Radio Team
(Jul 2012 - Aug 2012)

Currently a high school student at Walt Whitman High School in Maryland, USA, and will be starting class 12 this year. During the summer I pursued my interest in the development sector through an internship with OneWorld. I am working with the media team in maintaining the EDAA website. I am contributing by updating articles, events and general information on the site as well as editing some of the existing content.

In the process of working with OneWorld, I learnt a lot about community radio in India and its significant role in bringing about social development to the people.

Media Team
(Jul 2012 - Aug 2012)

During my summer vacation, I was earnestly looking out for an internship and my dream job was supposed to have people, fun, lot of tasks, satisfaction and learning... fortunately OneWorld picked me from the campus and from there it was all about learning in a friendly environment and amazing people to stick around with.

I am doing Bachelors of Journalism and Mass Communication from the Jagannath Institute of Management (JIMS) (http://www.jimsd.org/) and have a strong inclination towards photography and design. With so much to discover, I am happy to be a keen learner. If you show a passion for what you are doing, OWSA will find a way to help your talent grow!

Another thing I like about OneWorld is that working here is fun, even when you are dealing with difficult situations or unexpected things. There is always someone to reach out to for help. It was both a pleasure and honour to be a part of One World South Asia.

Shahana Lal

Research Team
(Jul 2012 - Aug 2012)

I am a third-year student at the University of Maryland (http://www.umd.edu/), majoring in sociology with a focus on social psychology and women’s issues. I am pursuing these interests through working with the research team of OneWorld and documenting a case study on an initiative called Maps4Aid that aims to end violence against women by spreading awareness through modern technology and social media.

From this experience I hope to gain further knowledge about governance work in India as well as learn more about pressing issues that affect the country I was born in as I currently reside in the US. Thus far, I have opened my eyes to the significant impact best practices have on development through innovation and would like to increase my own potential by studying and documenting the way people can better social issues and aid in the country’s development.

Tanvi Lamba

Research Team
(Jul 2012 - Jul 2012)

I am a final year student of Economic (Hons) from Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (http://dcac.du.ac.in/), University of Delhi. It turned out to be a good opportunity to be engaged in the documentation of good governance practices for the research team at OneWorld. This has been a great opportunity as well as a learning experience for me. Doing research work has given me an insight into how information can be analysed deeply, with more understanding and how it can be framed into a document. My purpose of pursuing an internship has been fulfilled as I learnt new things without being detached from the core field of economics.
