Sweety Karki

Media Team
(June 2014-August 2014)

I am a political science graduate from Delhi University. Currently I am pursuing Masters in Economics. My core areas and interests are political economy and development economics.

Working with Media team at OWSA as Intern Journalist has enhanced my knowledge and many other skills like research, inquiring, editing which are requisite for perfect news writing. Exposure to reports published by international agencies, critically analyzing them and reviewing it with proper assistance has created interest and developed my practical knowledge.

My exuberance and helpful attitude encouraged me to accept challenges. OWSA taught me to write with neutrality, which is a fundamental characteristic of Journalism. Here, I learnt to make my news report more reader centric and factual. My internship at OWSA was indeed satisfactory and fruitful.

Media Team
(May 2014- June 2014)

I am graduate in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College for Women. I am currently pursuing Masters in Politics and Communications from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

I interned with OWSA in 2014 for about a month and worked as part of the media team. I helped with the official functioning of the website and wrote articles for the same. Lending my voice to the community radio channel ‘One World, Many Voices’ presented me with a platform to connect with the rural population, which is bereft of modern technology, and disseminate information on ways to generate agricultural growth in the backdrop of unpredictable weather.

Furthermore, I was privileged to interview Steve Sawyer, Secretary General of Global Wind Energy Council. His viewpoints on renewable energy equipped me with an informed perspective on sustainable development. Working alongside environmentalists, policy analysts, lawyers and social activists, I believe that I understood the multifarious facets of political ecology and development issues plaguing developing nations. It was truly an amazing experience as it ushered me into the media industry and helped me in my career ambitions.

I am a Political Science graduate from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi. Currently, I am pursuing L.L.B from Faculty of Law, DU.

I worked in the Media department at OWSA where I was assigned tasks like regularly updating the OWSA news portal and researching on development-related news and other engaging topics. My period of internship at OWSA was indeed an incredible learning experience as we were allowed to individually contribute to the organisation by writing articles and getting them published online. OWSA helped me develop my research and critical thinking skills.

It broadened my horizons, making me aware of grueling issues concerning the world and thereby compelling me to question and challenge the status quo. A friendly work environment and helpful seniors certainly made my internship stint at OWSA a truly wonderful and knowledgeable experience.

"An economics graduate from Delhi University, I’m currently pursuing Masters in Social Work with specialization in Community Organization and Development Practice from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. I also have over three years of experience in the field of research and strategy consulting.

My experience of internship with OneWorld exposed me to varied unconventional yet significant aspects of social sector. My stint at OneWorld helped me explore and critically understand the role of media as a harbinger of social change and deliberation. I closely worked with the team of the community radio and social media for content development and analytics. During my internship, I also had the opportunity to cover various events and gain an insight about the latest initiatives in the development sector. Pertinent to my area of specialization, working for community radio helped me understand the ways radio can be used by a community in promoting their needs and forming network with various stakeholders to achieve a common goal. I’m confident that my experience at OneWorld would turn out to be a critical component of my professional evolution as a social worker."
