59 bedded neonatal facility inaugurated at Sassoon General Hospital

Finolex Industries, Mukul Madhav Foundation & Shreemant Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati Trust sponsored the NICU.

Pune: Finolex Industries, its CSR partner Mukul Madhav Foundation, and Shreemant  Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati Trust today came together to  inaugurate a 59- bedded state-of-the-art Neonatal (ICU) at B.J.Govt.Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, Pune; a fully sponsored unit by both Finolex Industries and Shreemant Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati Trust.

This facility was inaugurated by Girish Bapat (Guardian Minister, Pune) and Girish Mahajan (Medical Education Minister) among other dignitaries. While Shreemant  Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati Trust,Pune constructed the NICU in an area of 10,000- sq. feet , Finolex Industries Limited and its CSR partner Mukul Madhav Foundation (MMF) have aided in partial construction apart from fully equipping the facility with beds, monitors and other equipment.

The Neonatal ICU is a level-III unit with full-fledged facilities. The unit has facilities for Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), Human Milk Bank (HMB), ROP screening and treatment, bedside 2 D Echo/ USG and hearing services (OAE machine) which has been donated. Resting and shower rooms for mothers are also being provided. The NICU will be helpful for treating various problems in newborn babies like preterm, birth asphyxia, IUGR, Meconium Aspiration Syndrome, Neonatal Jaundice etc. The treatment will be provided free of cost (including expensive drugs like surfactant).A dedicated, trained team of faculty and nurses will be available round the clock to provide high quality compassionate care and service for best possible outcomes for the newborn babies admitted to NICU.

Inspired and influenced by the work done by the trust, Finolex Industries Limited and its CSR partner Mukul Madhav Foundation also got associated with this project. MMF has also been instrumental in providing these faculty members an opportunity to train and upgrade at prominent NICU’s of our Pune city namely KEM NICU.

Speaking at the event, Ashok Godse, President, Shreemant  Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati Trust, said, “we have constructed a state-of-the-art kitchen in Sassoon General Hospital through which we serve two meals per day per patient absolutely free of cost. Apart from this, we also have donated five Gynae wards and restrooms for the patient’s relative. Additionally we have also provided the hospital with two ambulances for Pune city.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dean of the hospital, Dr. Ajay Chandanwale said, “The goal is to strengthen the services of Sassoon General Hospital especially for middle class society and provide facilities at par with corporate hospitals.”

Ritu Chhabria, Managing Trustee, Mukul Madhav Foundation said on this occasion, “This is just the beginning. There is a lot more to be done in the field of welfare and healthcare. Donors and generous souls are welcome to join us in this noble initiative. People from the medical fraternity are most welcome to come along with us in this journey of making healthcare accessible to all. “
