Close to 250 employees volunteers worked on re-vamping a Government school along with environment lessons to children.

Bangalore: In an endeavour to create a more sustainable society, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) conducted its fourth activity under ‘ICARE’, an employee voluntary initiative to spread eco awareness amongst school children in the city. Toyota and its employees joined forces to conceptualize various sustainable projects and other environmental activities including revamping the school façade to tree plantation drive at Government Higher Primary school, Vajjarahalli.

The initiative was undertaken with an objective of improving facilities of the government school in an eco-friendly way, while spreading environmental awareness to children and staff in the school. Close to 250 volunteers enthusiastically associated with 200 school children in eco painting of school building, construction of the playground using recycled materials, developing the charts on eco-education, developing a kitchen garden for the school and making the school eco-friendly.

Showing commitment towards TKM’s key social values of sustained community development and creating sustainability in every ecological activity they do, the drive actively involved its employees aimed at enhancing the understanding on the increasing environmental challenges amongst young minds and to take necessary steps to counter it as a continued eco-initiative. Children showed enthusiasm in beautifying their school and premises in an eco-friendly manner with the volunteers.

The outcome of the initiative was - improved school infrastructure, sustainable play area of 1000 sq ft for kids to help build better cognitive and social skills, sensitized kids and greater environmental consciousness and better hygiene levels in the school.

Naveen Soni, who is the vice president of Toyota Kirloskar  was present at the event stated,It is necessary to shape the children’s attitude and behaviour towards the environment and ingrain a well-designed curriculum on eco awareness, which could play a vital role in helping them in becoming a responsible citizen. This campaign highlights Toyota’s vision and values, where we are giving our best to work on ensuring protection of the environment as one of its top priority concerns.

Toyota is working towards environment protection through reducing the use of energy and minimizing waste .we want to imbibe this culture across all walks. All our CSR initiatives are focused upon collaborative, creative, sustainable and scalable projects. Likewise, project “ICARE” is well guided by Toyota’s deeply rooted beliefs of sharing its success and best practices with the society. With the employee engagement, the ultimate motive is to achieve long-term sustainability which is our CSR core. Such activities could come a long way in educating & sensitizing the community that every small action initiated by many, does make a big difference towards creating a smarter, safer & friendly society.”
