Empowerment of women has become an urgent need for their financial independence, Mayor of Rajshahi, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, said.

Speakers at a certificate- giving ceremony in Rajshahi district of Bangladesh said substantial improvement of women entrepreneurship could play vital role towards ensuring women empowerment.

They viewed that successful promotion of women entrepreneurship could be the effective means of boosting their income generating activities.

They made these observations while giving certificate and allowance among the trained women on different trades held at the conference hall of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).

Jatiya Mahila Sangstha (JMS) under its `Promotion of Women Entrepreneurship toward Economic Empowerment Program' organized the 65-day training on catering, beautification, business management and fashion design.

On the occasion, certificates were given to 160 women while allowance of Taka 5.25 lakh among 175 trained women.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the ceremony as the chief guest with Chairman of the district JMS Marjina Parveen in the chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev) Dewan Abdus Samad, Chief Revenue Officer of RCC Syeda Jebin Nissa Sultana and social worker Shaeen Akter Rainy also spoke on the occasion.

Mayor Liton said empowerment of women has become an urgent need for their financial independence. So, the government had introduced a bondless loan programme for women entrepreneurs.

He said that women entrepreneurs should seize every opportunity offered by the government.

Liton further stated that professional training could help women entrepreneurs realize these opportunities.

As a whole, he said, women, especially entrepreneurs, can progress only if the authorities concerned ease the way for them in launching their start-ups.

He, however, stated that women entrepreneurs of the country were facing a number of obstacles which should be removed.
