French senator observes rapid progress in Sri Lanka

Nathalie Goulet, a member of the French Senate, said she will encourage the politicians in France to strengthen relations with Sri Lanka.

A member of the French Senate Nathalie Goulet who is visiting Sri Lanka has observed the rapid progress in the country and commended the Sri Lankan government for its commitment towards development.

Participating in a press briefing in Colombo at the conclusion of a three-day visit to the island, Goulet said she has observed a rapid development is in progress and therefore external elements should not interfere with Sri Lanka's internal affairs.

Goulet met President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kandy on August19 before returning to Colombo.

During the discussion with the President the French official has said that she has seen firsthand the efforts taken by the government and the President for peace and development in the country and she is ready to apprise the international community about it.

She said she will encourage the politicians in France to strengthen relations with Sri Lanka.

Goulet, senator from Normandy, was visiting Sri Lanka with a business delegation in preparation for the Commonwealth Business Forum to be held along with the Commonwealth Heads of Governments Meeting in November.

The visiting French senator pledged to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in trade and investments between the two countries.

Sri Lankan Ambassador in France Prof. Karunarathne Hangawatte, Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, and Secretary to the External Affairs Ministry Karunaratne Amunugama were also present at the discussion.
