India appreciates success of poverty reduction in Bangladesh

Visiting Indian Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh highly appreciated success of Bangladesh government in poverty reduction as the country achieved significant progress in the rural development.

The Indian minister made the comment at a meeting with State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka.

Ramesh stressed the need for sharing experiences and knowledge in the field of rural development between the two countries to cut poverty.

Highlighting different initiatives taken by the present government for rural development, Nanak said, "We have been able to reduce rural poverty due to sincere and effective efforts of the present government."

He urged the Indian government to work jointly in the filed of research particularly in agriculture sector to accelerate economic development of the two countries.

Most of the people in both Bangladesh and India are living below poverty line, Nanak said adding, "The two countries could be benefited immensely, if we work together in different development issues of rural development."

Senior officials of the Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives and other officials concerned, among others, were present on the occasion.
