Indian government has decided to provide skill-development training to one member of each family, which has completed 100 man days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, MGNREGA.

Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh revealed this in Guwahati onyesterday during the launch of a joint initiative by an education business group and Assam government to provide vocational training to students under the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework, NVEQF.

Lauding the efforts of Assam government in introducing computers in schools, Mr. Ramesh said that computer-based vocational education in schools is a major achievement of the state. Initially, NVEQF will cover 10 schools offering two training streams, in retail and computer hardware and IT. Addressing the gathering, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi stressed that vocational and skill-based training should form a mandatory part of the school curriculum.
