OneWorld along with SJS is organising a roundtable conference in New Delhi to discuss ways of financing sustainable agriculture in Uttarakhand.
New Delhi: OneWorld along with the Uttarakhand-based Shri Jagdamba Samiti (SJS) is organizing a roundtable, ‘Financing for Sustainable Agriculture’ at the Indian Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The roundtable will focus on ways to garner fiscal support for development activities in Uttarakhand.
Dr Rakesh Gupta, General Manager, Priority Sector and Lead Bank Division, Punjab National Bank, who heads the nation-wide agri-business unit for the PNB will deliver the Keynote Address at the roundtable at 6.00 pm on January 10 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi.
The upcoming roundtable is limited to key stakeholders, including the government, corporate and financial institutions, NGOs and people with interest in the sustainable development of Uttarakhand. OneWorld has already hosted a series of two conferences and two roundtables on ‘Rebuilding Uttarakhand.’
India’s Water Resources Minister Harish Rawat was the Chief Guest at the first conference, while the Textiles Minister KS Rao was the Chief Guest at the second conference. SK Muttoo, IAS, Chief Investment Commissioner, Uttarakhand, and renowned agricultural scientist Prof. MS Swaminathan addressed the first and second roundtables respectively.
OneWorld, in collaboration with Sri Jagadamba Samiti (SJS), is holding a series of round-table discussions to explore means and mechanisms that could capitalise on the potential of rural India and overcome inefficiencies of the current rural production-supply chain relations.
These roundtables would involve farmer producer organisations; policy makers, academia and civil society actors; corporate houses and financial institutions and investors. The role of corporate houses and financial institutions and investors assumes importance considering that they have the potential to bring in investment in infrastructure and technology as well as expertise in marketing.
