Cooperation between various countries can make South Asian region prosperous, said Sheikh Hasina, the premier of Bangladesh.
Dhalka: The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina yesterday stressed the need for South Asian countries to work together for accelerating economic development of the region.
"The region would be further developed and prosperous if the South Asian nations work together and cooperate with each other," she said.
The Prime Minister expressed this view when the outgoing Sri Lankan High Commissioner WA Sarath Kumara Weragoda paid a courtesy call on her at her official Ganobhaban residence here yesterday evening.
After the meeting, PM's Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil briefed reporters.
Referring to the long-lasting friendly relations between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, Sheikh Hasina expressed the hope that the ties would be further consolidated in the years to come.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner extended his sincere thanks to the Prime Minister for her government's cooperation in discharging his responsibilities during his tenure in Bangladesh.
He expressed the hope that advancement of Bangladesh as a happy, prosperous and peaceful country would continue.
PM's Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikdar and Special Assistants Abdus Sobhan Golap and Mahbubul Hoque Shakil were present.
